A couple weeks ago I made the trek down to Houston to be closer to Jason and get our little home ready before the wedding. I'm living in the exact city and area that my sista Emily served her mission. That consoles me at times when reality hits that I'm so far from everything and everyone I know. A week after I got here, Ike came. What a welcoming surprise!

Walmart was boarded up and shut down. When walmart shuts down, you know something isn't right. All gas stations ran out of gas and closed. There was no life in Houston at all.
So, we made caramelled apples and took off to Austin to avoid the storm.
When we returned, this is what we found.....
It's one thing to see it on the news, and another thing to see it in real life. Hurricane Ike's winds were 110 mph, a category 2. A category 3 hurricane is defined as 111 mph winds. Ike was just one degree short of a category 3. Two million people were without power and one week later residents of South East Texas are just getting back on their feet.

Craziness!!! I'm glad you left town...are you SURE you want to be in Texas??? Utah is nice and inland away from those hurricanes...think about it :)
