Twenty freaking Six. 2 Miles

When I was on my mission, I made a goal that
I would run a Marathon in my lifetime.
I put it aside for a really long time until I was in
St. George with my Mom and sisters where we watched
the Ironman athletes finish. I was inspired. It was then
that I committed to doing a Marathon... in 9 weeks.

My wonderful, supportive Jason made sure I ran when I
was supposed to, even if it was 95 degrees outside. He
made me get out there, even if I was tired. He ran with me
while pushing our chubby Hazelnut in the stroller. Training
in this Vegas heat while still nursing was really tricky.
But I did it and it's over.
I wouldn't have trained had Jason not had the faith in me
or supported me the way he did.

Jairus, my recent marathon athlete brother and total inspiration,
finished his first marathon then called to tell me
he was going to run mine with me...
6 weeks after his.
There is no way I would have finished if he weren't with me.
I'm so glad he was there to push me, laugh with me
and make the time go fast.

While I ran, my Aunt Berta, Uncle Dave and cousins Max and Eli
watched our Hazel who had an ear infection and pink eye.
They have a way of making you feel like you're the
only person who exists. They assured me my precious
would be okay... even if she had to go 10 hours without suckling.
They are the best and I don't know how I could have run
had I not had them to be there for us, in so many ways.

These are the opening and closing ceremonies they put on.
They're crazy, hilarious and absolutely the best.

It was a really neat experience and I learned that
no matter your circumstances, if you put your mind to it
you can accomplish anything.

You are unbelievable. What an accomplishment my mom and I went to Vegas last summer when Mitch had his baby. It was so hot and you trained for a marathon in that heat. That makes you that much cooler. Can I just say that I love you AND that you look wonderful.

holy crap! you don't know me, but i know jason (and he knows me too). my name is brittany. i am IMPRESSED! i too ran my first marathon, this past june. but let me point out two things that prove you are a much, MUCH tougher cookie than me - 1. you ran in the heat of vegas (i fizzled out if the oregon temps passed 75) and 2. you trained in NINE weeks! i had nearly twice that many weeks - 16 to be exact. you are a warrior! congrats on finishing and rock on woman! i am now your biggest fan!

PS - oh, and you pushed your adorable babe in a stroller. yeah, i don't even come close to how cool you are. :)
